He’s in limbo, because of the Carlos Guillen situation. Rhymes plays some decent defense, but there doesn’t figure to be much filling in to do at second, with Ramon Santiago looking like the starter there these days. Rhymes hasn’t done much with the bat this year, besides a couple recent doubles. So his role probably would be as a pinch-runner – like he was last week for Victor Martinez, when he scored the winning run against the White Sox – or perhaps even a pinch-bunter, late in a close ballgame.
