Northern lights over northern Michigan

Photographer Shawn Malone took these photos of the Aurora Borealis, or northern lights, over Lake Superior near Marquette on Aug. 3, 2010. The lights, usually only seen in Arctic regions, appeared after two minor solar storms flared on Sunday and started shooting tons of plasma directly at Earth.
